Since its launch in 1989, the Mazda MX-5 has never been a car to rest on its laurels. Over the past 25 years, through three model generations. Mazda’s classic roadster has always remained the finest example of a pure driver’s car. The winning combination of good looks, zesty performance, and inspired handling ensures its legendary status as the world’s best-selling two-seater sports car.

AGGRESSIVE NEW LOOK

Mazda’s designers have given the all-new Mazda MX-5 an aggressive, sinuous stance, with tighter proportions and an ultra-low hoodline – no mean feat bearing in mind today’s stringent pedestrian crash regulations. Compact, piercing LED headlights and a large lower air intake add further to its attractively fearsome visage. The side profile boasts lines that peak at the front fenders before sweeping up over the rear wheels to give the car a sense of motion while simultaneously bringing the cabin rearward, enhancing the Mazda MX-5’s rear-wheel drive credentials and providing more muscularity in its haunches. At the rear, new circular LED lights combine with turn signals that wrap around the sides of the car to give a taut, resolved look to the back end.

FUTURE CLASSIC

This is a machine that has had to build on the key ingredients of its forebears – it has to be lightweight, rear-wheel drive, with a short wheelbase, perfect 50:50 sufficiently original and different to appear to a whole new generation of drivers. This is the car the world has been waiting for, and Mazda’s designers have been painfully aware that they had to get it just right.

    The new-generation six-speed manual transmission SKYACTIV-MT was originally developed to bring the same light positive shifting enjoyed in pervious generations of the MX-5 to a broader lineup of Mazda cars, achieving this through a complete redesign of the internal shift mechanism for more efficient action and minimum friction.

    i-ELOOP captures the energy lost during deceleration, and saves it as electrical power in a revolutionary high-capacity Electric Double Layer Capacitor (EDLC). Combined with i-stop can improve fuel economy by up to 10%.
